Wood’s Homes Research Chair a Canadian first

Innovative Social Work chair represents the future of research in children’s mental health.

Calgary, AB -- On Friday May 19, the University of Calgary Faculty of Social Work and Wood’s Homes will introduce a new kind of research chair. The Wood’s Homes Research Chair in Children’s Mental Health will be hosted on the Wood’s Homes campus and focus on working with Wood’s frontline social workers, therapists and other clinicians to identify, measure and share effective treatment approaches and put cutting-edge, evidence-based research into practice.

This is the first Canadian chair in children’s mental health to be located in a community agency instead of a university campus. The purpose of the chair is to beneficially impact the lives of children and their families by helping to answer fundamental questions about why some interventions work better than others and why some programs have better outcomes than others. The goal is also to bring new research to the frontlines as quickly as possible.
