Reminders

  • Check the Graduate Awards Database on a monthly basis to determine what Scholarship and Award Competitions are available and which ones you are eligible to apply for.
  • Check the application deadline dates and make sure you submit all required documentation to the appropriate office by that deadline date.
  • Read the emails that are sent to you regarding funding and award opportunities.
  • Make sure that your email address is updated and current.
  • Consult with your supervisor regarding any scholarships or awards that you would like to apply for (Competitive) or to be nominated for (Program Recommended).
  • The Graduate Calendar available online also has detailed information on Awards and Financial assistance.
  • Eligible thesis-based students are strongly encouraged to apply for funding through external sources including SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council) and CIHR (Canadian Institute of Health Research). The Faculty of Social Work has had enormous success with SSHRC and CIHR funding in recent years and our future allocations are tied, in part, to current and the immediate past successes. The Faculty’s official policy is that we will not be in a position to recommend other sources of internal (University of Calgary) funding to any student who was eligible for SSHRC or CIHR funding but did not apply for one (the only exception being for year-one entry students). More information for SSHRC can be found through the following link: http://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/funding-financement/programs-programmes/index-eng.aspx
