About

Dr. Jaques joined the Faculty of Social Work in a full time academic capacity in 2008 but has been an adjunct Associate Professor and taught regularly in the Faculty since 1997. Lorne has been seconded to the Faculty from UCGlobal where he was the Senior Director of International Development and Research. He was also the Director of the New York Office of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research. He has worked in more than 30 low and middle income countries in wide variety of capacities; as a project manager, community development advisor and as a trainer. He has worked with local and multi-national teams in a wide diversity of projects related to health, public policy, natural resources and governance.

Lorne does training, project planning and consulting in the areas of community and participatory development, leadership and management.

Lorne’s social work experience includes child welfare, young offenders, income security and social planning. He was also the executive director of a small Calgary based NGO.

Lorne's areas of scholarly interest include international development policy, social capital and community development, the integration of science and technology in development including knowledge creation, distribution and transfer.
