Before being appointed The Brenda Strafford Chair in the Prevention of Domestic Violence at the Faculty of Social Work, University of Calgary, Lana Wells was a member of the senior leadership team at the United Way of Calgary and Area, managing funding for 140 agencies, 280 programs and stewarding million-dollar donations. She also led the public policy and government relations work. Lana has worked for numerous non-profit organizations and local and provincial government bodies as a planner, researcher, project manager, evaluator, facilitator and trainer. Her areas of expertise include family violence, women’s issues, children’s services, aboriginal affairs, social justice, organizational change and the not for profit sector. Lana volunteers widely, sits on several boards of directors and was president of the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters in 2000-2002. She has taught at several post-secondary institutions and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work from the U of C and a BA from McMaster.
