Degrees: PhD (Utah), MSW (Windsor), BSW (Laur.)

Interests: Family violence, family preservation, gender issues, First Nations and addictions, human sexuality, clinical practice.

Dr. Heather Coleman has been with the Faculty of Social Work since 1992. Prior to entering academia, she practiced social work in a variety of settings, including psychiatric social work, forensic social work, chronic and rehabilitative care, family services and child welfare. Her current areas of interests include children and families and social work education.

Coleman has published a number of books, chapters, and journal articles since joining the faculty. The most recent book, An Introduction to Family Social Work, 3rd Ed., is scheduled to be released in February, 2009.

Coleman currently serves on the Board of Accreditation for the Canadian Association for Social Work Education.
