At the University of Calgary 's Faculty of Social Work, Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students are exposed to a variety of courses and practicum opportunities that go beyond social work knowledge. Our undergraduate program prepares students with the knowledge and skills necessary for entry-level professional social work practice. This includes, but is not limited to, jobs within community based services, community development activities, child care services, institutional services in health care, long term care centres or corrections and hospital services. Qualified students, who have an interest in international social work, have the opportunity to be in international placements. All social work graduates from the University of Calgary meet the academic requirements for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers.
Our BSW program is nationally accredited and we are one of the largest and most innovative programs within Canada. Students are educated in a variety of theories and skills necessary to address different social work issues in various settings. It is also the minimum required qualification to obtain a job within the social work field and provides graduates the eligibility to test for entry-level licensure. In addition, the Field Practicum aspect allows student to apply theories into practice developing lifelong learning skills.
