Interests: Fetal alcohol syndrome, field education, disabilities, curriculum design.

Dorothy Badry worked for 16 years in child welfare, and has long standing practice and research interests in the areas of disability and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.

She was the first field coordinator hired in the newly developed Learning Circles program (formerly known as Access) in 2002. Badry has worked extensively on developing curriculum in field placements for distance delivery to students in rural, remote and Aboriginal communities.

Badry became an Assistant Professor on April 1, 2008 and has completed her PhD titled: Becoming a Birth Mother of a Child with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

Current research projects include:

• The Addiction Severity Index: A profile of Canadian women involved in home visitation and mentoring programs for the prevention of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder; and
• The Grassroots of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder: The Lived Experience of Birth Mothers (doctoral research).

Badry is working on a community-based project in Edmonton on the role of mentors and advocates in supporting birth mothers of children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
